The Plight Of Elderly In India

'The age where people wish to wander
shrine,
Now shread tears of brine.
Yell at their own sublime,
Can you still not afford a penny's time?
Oh! pety mines, I grew you up with all
my trines.
Cease! Until you reach the very ease...'

The elderly population in India is continuously blooming and also the problems faced by these people are increasing simultaneously. The number of people in old age homes is constantly increasing and also most of the parents are now deciding to live in an old age home rather than living with their children. Is'nt it strange? Of course, it is. Nowadays these people are becoming a prey to the predators. The predators like: lack of care, emotional support and economic support from the family etc. Our culture recognizes the status of the parents as that of God. We tend to have houses but lack homes, we protest having a family but the syllable
'fam' is still missing; what to do with the only 'ily', that's the root cause people now a days are fragmented, only and lonely.

A moral duty is put on the children to take care of their parents. But the rapidity of this urban era shattered in utter negligence, prevailing in the society is that children are not willing to take care of their parents, they do not want to invest on them, they tend treating them as savoury, as aliens! They do not want to share an emotional bond with parents.

These children are forgetting that the foundation of their life is built up by their parents and are forgetting their moral and ethical duties towards their parents. Obviously fast life, industrialization, money oriented minds, inflation etc. are the backbone factors, aren't they? Children have no time to look after their parents because of their busy schedule and as a consequence of this situation the elders are getting neglected.

The Old Age consists of ages nearing or surpassing the average life span of human beings i.e 60 and beyond. The boundary of old age cannot be defined exactly because it does not possess the same meaning in all societies. Its brim varies society to society, culture to culture and people to people and an icing on the cake is as an extravaganza too!

'Appearances can be deceptive', it's the mindset of people to identify 'the elderly' on the basis of their physical appearance, neglecting their spiritual spirit and their hearty heart.

I ain't a poet or a scribbler but I quote
“We start dying the day we are born”. Ponder deep, relate to it; 'Don't we?' The retortment lies right buried, 'People shread, everyday, every time, every moment'.
